Introduction

20 Second City is a frenetic city builder where players construct a settlement in a mere 20 seconds.  Gather resources to construct buildings that provide a variety of utilities, either collecting more resources or scoring points.  How many points can you score?

NOTE: This is a build currently in development.  While the basic game is playable, more buildings and mechanics are planned for the future which should ideally make the experience even better than it already is.  Keep this in mind while playing the current version.

Created as part of the 20 Second Game Jam.

Instructions

To construct a building, click the buttons on the right side of the screen to enter build mode.  You will see a ghost of the queued building.  By clicking on an open space on the map, you will build the queued building, provided you have enough resources.  Right click to exit build mode.

Buildings

Currently there are four buildings in the game, but more will be added as development progresses.  Each has its own unique behavior.

Town Center

Your town center spawns at a random spot at the start of each round. Since it is your settlements centralized hub, the town center scores 2 points for every building constructed in its range.

Lumberjack

Every second, your lumberjack will collect wood.  Lumberjacks get wood equal to the number of forests it is adjacent to.  At the end of the game you lose 3 points for each lumberjack you build.

Quarry

Quarries are like lumberjacks but for stone. Quarries collect stone for each mountain they are adjacent to.  At the end of the game you lose 3 points for each quarry you build.

Warehouse

Warehouses benefit from being placed by your production buildings.  For every lumberjack or quarry in its range, the warehouses score 3 points.  However, you don't want to build warehouses too close to each other, because warehouses also lose 5 points for every warehouse in its range.

Statue

Statues are a representation of your city's industrial might.  Statues generate 1 point every second after they are built, so the sooner you can place a statue, the better.

I’m a sucker for games like Islander, so I knew I’d love this when I first saw it on Discord! Sadly there is a weird memory crash issue on browser that hinder gameplay, otherwise, loved it!

Few notes I’d add: Don’t punish me for building in a building game, punish me for building in the wrong way. The fact that I get minus points for production is a really weird choice imo. Punish me for putting them close to each other (like warehouse) instead because now it feels like you are giving negative points for playing the game.

Add a little music, more sprites and we have a solid full project on our hands!

Showcasing the cost for the building inside the gameplay (on an empty space somewhere on the screen) would be nice to have!

Give me a restart button, so I don’t have to double click Menu -> Start!

I’m just picking little flaws, because I like what you have here and want to help to polish it even further!

Well done!

yoooooo

Congratulations!  This barely beats out the previous highest score I had personally seen, which was 101

nice game, got 54 points by spamming statues. could use some more variety but i can already see some strategies.
